Horizontal
The first stop open-cell and memory foam makes after arriving at our facility is the horizontal cutter. Used to slice bulk foam buns into sheets that are more easily managed, the horizontal cutter handles the majority of our initial material processing. Once cut down, those sheets move on to other machines to be fabricated into products, or are sold as-is. The horizontal saw utilizes an 86" x 132" automated table that moves the buns back and forth through the 2-1/4" wide blade. This saw can handle bulk foam 51" tall and 88" wide, though the average bun is closer to 40" in height and 76" in length. Depending on equipped features, this machine can weigh 4,500 to 6,000 pounds.
As its name implies, the horizontal cutter operates along a flat plane with no blade articulation. Sheets can be sliced as thin as 1/4", with every non-reticulated and non-latex open-cell foam passing through the horizontal saw at some point. For upholsterers and other businesses who want to buy bulk orders of sheets, the horizontal cutter is often the only processing required.
